4th week of March

Monday, March 20th

Emily woke me up around 5:30 this morning crying because she was having trouble breathing. Carlos and I gave her a nebulizer treatment, then he went to work and I stayed and cuddled with her until she went back to sleep. Emily was still having retractions, so I kept her home from school and made her a doctor appt.

We took advantage of the extra time together and read lots of books and cuddled. I was still giving her nebulizer treatments every 4 hours. I feel so bad / sad for her when this happens. I wish I could just give her a hug and take it all away, or take it on myself.

That afternoon at the doctor’s office, I could tell that Emily was feeling a little better. Her oxygen levels were at 96% and that was after all the treatments that I gave her. It is scary to think what her levels might have been in the morning when she first woke up. She had a fever and a cough, so her doctor prescribed her antibiotics because he didn’t want her breathing to get worse. He said if she did have some type of bacterial infection like pneumonia, that her breathing would get worse and he didn’t want us to end up in the ER. David really liked this little ride on toy while we were there, and the nurse was nice enough to let him ride into the room where Emily was seen.

That evening for Family Home Evening, Carlitos taught the lesson. He surprised me and did a really cool lesson that was geared towards the younger kids, which they really liked. The lesson was on making decisions and the affects they have.

Tuesday, March 21st

I had Emily stay home from school for another day. She was still using her nebulizer and I wanted to make sure that her fever was down. There was an away game today, so the boys and my husband were gone for the game.

Ashley and I made some delicious pumpkin bread. When I look at these pictures of her, it seems that she is just growing up so fast.

Then we had an easy picnic dinner in the living room while we watched a movie. David was being very sweet and giving his sisters hugs and kisses.

The boys’ game went well, they won 6-0. Carlitos scored his 1st two goals of the season. Jose assisted him on one of the goals. Carlos said it was nice to see the brothers in action!

Friday, March 24th ~ Jose’s Birthday

Happy birthday Jose! After school and soccer practice was over, we started off with what I guess one could call a treasure hunt. Jose was handed an envelope with a clue and he had to figure it out and where it would lead him to next.

This was after Jose found the 3rd clue, which was located on an old train that is near the DOL. The clue lead him to get his driver’s permit! I was happy for him, and I did not take any pictures of him while he was getting his permit, but I will definitely take one when the permit comes in the mail. Afterward, I had one of the people who worked at the department of licensing hand Jose the next clue, which read, “Now that you have your permit, let’s chill for a bit. Take us to the place where you would like to eat. Today is your birthday and it should be neat.”

I took this picture of Jose driving Carlos’ truck from the van as we were getting ready to leave the DOL.

A couple pics of us at Jose’s birthday dinner.

Once we came home, some kids were already arriving for Jose’s FIFA tournament & sleepover.

First, Jose opened presents. The Happy Birthday Food Cake was a fun way to give him snacks and drinks to share with his friends later that evening. Of course we had extras in the kitchen….after all, we are talking about teenage boys here! 😉

Jose’s last gift was a small box with a needle in it. He asked what it was for and we told him to go to the kitchen. Here he found these Birthday Ballons. He had fun popping them. It was nice to see that genuine smile on his face. It reminded me of when he was little.

By the end of the night, our house had been taken over by teenagers! That was definitely alright with us. They were having a FIFA tournament (soccer video game). We had two TV’s and two gaming systems set up, so that 2 games could be played at once. I love having the boys’ friends over to our house. There were 10 of them all together. I’m glad that they are comfortable enough with us to be able to come over and hang out like this. Our door is always open!

This was the bracket the boys used for their tournament. The soda and candy were the prize for the winner of the tournament. This group of boys were being funny while waiting for the rest of the boys to come in for the picture. They wrote another kids’ name of one of their hands and covered up the name of the real winner. They are a hoot! But, the real winner was…..Myhles! He is the boy in the middle directly over the tournament bracket poster. He is a nice kid. Myhles has been coming to Jose’s birthday parties since Jose turned 7. <3 these boys!

Saturday, March 25th

Since everyone was so full from our dinner, plus all the snacks that they boys had, we didn’t have cake on Jose’s birthday. We did the cake the next day after lunch.

Don’t mind my homemade cake decorating skills….or lack there of! 😉 Overall, I think that Jose had a nice birthday.

Ashley had an out-of-town soccer game later that day. Her team ended up loosing, but only by one goal. They did much better than they did at their game last weekend. Again, I didn’t take many pictures. It was so cold and David bumped his head and wanted to snuggle with me in the blanket for most of the game. I will be taking pictures at Ashley’s next game for sure!
