May 2020 ~ Week 4

We are definitely enjoying our new home and our time together this week.

Monday, May 25th ~ Memorial Day

Carlos and I started off the day with dropping off our truck at our friend’s house. They just found out they will be moving to Texas, as one of them took a job offer there. They will be using the truck to make dump / donation runs etc. We will miss them…as it seems we were just getting to know them, since we haven’t been here very long. We are excited and happy for them though. It was nice to see and talk to another couple from church in person as we haven’t done that lately due to covid19.

Back at home, it was time to get ready for our BBQ!

Our BBQ consisted of many yummy things: burgers, hotdogs, pork loin, carne asada & tortillas, ranch BLT pasta salad & chips. Feeling like we needed some fruit, I put together this last minute fruit platter.

Just add a cup of vanilla yogurt to the middle of the platter and you have the best “last minute” fruit platter….and its red, white and blue too! Quite patriotic. πŸ˜‰

Kevin and Jose came up for the BBQ. We were super happy to see them!

Jose had worked memorial day from 4 am to 12:30 pm. I love that he still came up to spend the holiday with us. Later that night, Carlos said it is hard to see him leave each time he visits and that he can’t imagine how hard it must be for me (as the mom). I have to agree it is hard. I love this young man so much! I know this is a new stage of life for us as parents, not having our oldest children living at home anymore. Do goodbyes ever get any easier?

Just when I thought the day was about over, we had a knock at the door. It was the missionaries! Carlos knew they were coming by, but it was a surprise for me! Shortly after we went on the stay home stay safe order, the two missionaries who were serving in our ward were sent elsewhere, for safety reasons. One was sent home to Arizona because he has asthma and the other went to a different area. As it turns out, Elder Gomez is back! He came over so he could introduce us to his new comps.

Elder Gomez, Elder Ditto & Elder Pixton

They weren’t allowed to come inside because of social distancing rules etc, but they were allowed to be outside! So, Carlos threw some more burgers on the grill and we were able to feed these guys their Memorial Day dinner. The two new missionaries had been serving in Mexico and Chile prior to Covid19. Now they have been reassigned and are serving here! It always brings me joy to feed the missionaries. Especially since I know there are some wonderful people down in Phoenix doing the same thing for our son.

Tuesday, May 26th

Back to homeschool today! I also did a lot of laundry today. I usually do all the laundry on Mondays and Tuesdays, but I decided to just enjoy the Memorial Day with the family yesterday.

Wednesday, May 27th

Today we had some really nice weather. Now that state parks are open again, we decided to venture out and go on a hike.

This was the end result of our hike. It was beautiful. I will admit that I was a little nervous during part of the hike because there were some drop offs with out rails, but I’m glad we did this.

It was really good for all of us to get out of the house and into the fresh air. We all enjoyed this little trip. The kids had fun dipping their feet in the water and skipping stones. I’ve told the kids this before, but as we were on this little outing, I really was thankful that we have had one another to keep each other company during this stay home stay safe order. Being home hasn’t always been easy but these guys keep me going and keep me smiling.

Once we were back at home, we had a picnic in our yard and played some family baseball.

Jose and Isabella also made it out to enjoy the amazing weather today.

Thursday, May 28th

Today we played a little bit of family basketball. It was fun while it lasted.

David felt like he was having a hard time and he got a little bent out of shape. Then Carlos and I ended up having a little misunderstanding too. We still ended up having a good day though.

We finished up the evening with another picnic dinner outside. Then after Ashley was done with YW, the kids and I watched a movie together.

Friday, May 29th

Today we played soccer and had a really good time! David made an awesome save, that I believe surprised us all.

Jose intervied for a bid position at the mill and he got the job! He is moving up after 3.5 months on the cleaning crew! I don’t have a pic to share, but I am so proud of him! He will be working nights, but having weekends off….. just like his dear old dad! After speaking with Jose over the phone, I realized that one of my prayers had been answered! Just the week before during my personal scripture study I had been reading about the wayward Alma the younger and the sons of Mosiah. Now, obviously Jose isn’t persecuting people who believe in Christ or anything like that. Jose believes in Christ, but it has been at least 4 to 5 months since he has been to church and I do worry about him. I had prayed that one day Jose would not have to work Sunday mornings anymore, so that he could go to church again. Who knew that my prayer would be answered in just a week?! Church isn’t open yet to do Covid19, but I hope when it does open again that Jose will take the opportunity to go back after working Sundays the last few months.

After the kids went to bed, Ashley and I had a movie night. πŸ˜‰ I love this girl!

Saturday, May 30th

Today, marks the day of the first thing to get broken in our new house…..by means of force or misuse. πŸ™

We heard Ian wailing in the bathroom, went in to investigate and found that he had broken the toilet paper fixture. I’m glad he didn’t go into full on fit mode. I do wish I could teach him to be more gentle with things though. Overall, I am grateful for another good week with my family.
