Soccer Photo Session

For quite sometime now I have been taking pictures of our children’s soccer teams over the years. I thought I would share some of the pictures and ideas we have had and used over the years.

2018 Soccer Photo Session

Full body pose while holding the ball and using the net / goal as a background

Up-close pose while using the net as a background

Photography tip:

Don’t forget to turn the symbol on the ball to the right side up position or hide it completely. You can see I forgot to do that in these two pictures to the right. Their super cute faces lead your eye away from the ball of course.

Team Pictures:

It can always be a little bit challenging to get a good group picture of younger kids. These 7 year olds did a pretty good job, as we were beginning to run out of daylight!

With the sun beginning to go down, I took the opportunity to snap a few more pictures. The shadowed looking landscape with the glow from the setting sun can make an awesome background. I had to throw that picture in of little David. I just loved the colors in the sky that evening.

Here is Ashley’s team picture for this season. I thought it came out well. I added some fun green lettering. My husband passed these pictures out to the girls in 8×10 size at their end of the season pizza party. Unfortunately, I didn’t get around to doing individual shots this year.

Soccer photo sessions from years passed

Another popular soccer pose is to do the full body pose (like shown at the beginning of the post) however instead of having your child holding the ball, they can put one foot on the ball instead. This is what we did for Emily’s team last fall.

Photography tip: Watch hand placement and take the same picture from different angles. In the first pic, Emily had her hand on her hip. This added a little pizzazz! The second to pics are the same position, but taken from different angles

Here are some more “foot on the ball” poses with a difference in background than the pictures above, as well as being taken at different angles.

Photography tip: Be sure to let your goalie wear his gloves in the picture. It will give the picture an added emphasis on what position he plays.

Other ideas for poses

We have done the full body pose with the soccer ball positioned on the ground, instead of having a foot on the ball or instead of holding the ball.

We have also done this sitting pose with the ball positioned in front of the subject. I like this pose as it is a little bit different from other poses.

There are many other pose ideas out there. I am hoping to one day try out some poses that incorporate soccer cleats, as well as trying out some laying down poses.

Team pictures

Here is another team picture that I have taken. This one was more of an impromptu picture, as the team had just one their league championships. My husband really liked the lettering that I added on this picture.

Team pictures can be taken in the goal, using it as a background. They can also be taken by simply using the landscape as a background.

These two team pictures are a group of 7 year olds and a group of 9 year olds.

I have really enjoyed photographing our children’s soccer teams over the years and I look forward to continuing to do so. I hope you enjoy these pictures and get a little inspiration to photograph your child’s soccer team.
